Sacramento is the capital city of the State of California.  It is where the Sacramento and American Rivers meet and it hosts great events like the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee and the Sacramento French Film Festival.  During such busy times of the year, it's always advisable to book your accommodation in Sacramento well in advance for the best rates and availability.  While some of the local hotels in Sacramento can be pretty pricey, there are a lot of great hotel deals out there.  In particular, if you book online, you can snag some of the best hotels in Sacramento at the very best prices.  Planning your trip ahead of time is the way to save money on your holiday and, if possible, visiting during low (or off peak) seasons will mean added savings and less crowds too.

Sacramento, California Festivals

Cal Expo's Grape and Gourmet, Sacramento Beer Week, and Sacramento Cocktail Week are some of the most popular events on the local calendar.

One of the biggest attractions in terms of Sacramento cuisine is the “Farm to Fork” campaign that was launched back in 2012.  The local government has implemented this campaign in order to encourage restaurant and other dining establishment owners to purchase their food products locally.  In doing so, not only do visitors and locals get that real Sacramento taste but it's a great way of supporting the local economy and further growing the city.

No matter what kind of entertainment you are looking for when visiting this thriving city, you are sure to be amazed by its offerings.  The Sacramento Shakespeare Festival is held every summer in William Land Park.  The Community Center Theatre hosts performances by The Sacramento Ballet, Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra and the Sacramento Opera.

There are also a number of different bars, pubs and clubs that will keep you entertained well into the early hours of the morning.  Sacramento has something for everyone so, whether you enjoy watching the professionals dance at the local ballet or you prefer to tear up the dance floor yourself, it's all here in one fabulous city!

Family entertainment and local sights

For great family fun, you have come to the right city!  Fairytale Town and Funderland are both great for kids and adults alike. Funderland is located within William Land Park so, if you are attending a Shakespeare performance here, you should definitely allow the young ones some fun of their own while you are here.

The California State Fair is also a great day out for the whole family.  If you want to make the most of any fair, however, it is usually best to visit during the week (not during school vacation) since the weekends can get pretty crowded and that means waiting in long lines.  In addition, there are usually some great deals during the week and possibly even cheaper admission.

The Capitol Building is probably one of the most visited of all the local landmarks.  This fantastic 19th century granite building was actually modelled after the U.S. Capitol so you should notice some striking resemblances.

Tower Bridge is another fine structure to see while you are here.  It is spectacular during the day but make sure that you get to see it at night when it's all lit up.
