Top things to do in Ontario
By far, the number one attraction in Ontario has to be Niagara Falls. As you approach, you can’t help but be amazed by the sights and sounds that surround you. Venture up the observation deck for a superb view of the three falls in the area, including the iconic Horseshoe Falls. The observation deck has its own restaurant but, if you prefer, you can sit down at one of the other restaurants or cafes for a nibble and refreshment. Explore the various museums in the area, enjoy a journey behind the falls or take a ride on the Maid of the Mist. A good tip to remember is to get here early! Leave your Niagara hotel room promptly in the morning because you are likely to encounter crowds and queues (although they do move rather quickly).
While touring the area, you will also travel through Niagara-on-the-Lake where you can spend some time in the local botanic gardens and see the inner workings of the floral clock. You can also visit the many local wineries and do some wine tasting. The area is particularly famous for its deliciously sweet ice wine (made from frozen grapes).
Your trip to Ontario would not be complete without staying in Toronto for a few days. Enjoy a trip up the CN Tower and the very best in dinner theatre at Medieval Times. As you are served food and drink by your “wench”, you will be entertained by skilfully trained knights as they joust, sword fight and battle it out.
Other places to visit in Ontario
Travelling west from Toronto will lead you to the city of Kitchener. While it only gained city status just over 100 years ago, Kitchener has a rich history which can be discovered and enjoyed by visiting places like the Waterloo Region Museum and the Doon Heritage Crossroads. The area also has its own ski and summer resorts so, whether you visit in the summer or winter, you will always have plenty to keep you entertained and out and about rather than cooped up in your Ontario hotel room.
Thunder Bay is another great stop to make. The scenery is absolutely superb and visitors enjoy trips to the magnificent Kakabeka Falls as well as several parks in the area. The Sleeping Giant Provincial Park is a favourite since it offers lake views, the cool shade of forest trees and the opportunity for camping, fishing and other outdoor activities. If you book your hotel accommodation in Ontario for a couple of nights, you could save some money and enjoy the outdoors by camping out here for a night or two. It’s also a great place to stop if you are planning on picking up a rental car and driving around the province to various cities and sights.
